Dear parents, family and friends,
I was recently told by someone I admire as an educator that my philosophies and current classroom set up can easily transition into a flexible learning environment. It was something I had not heard very much about at the time and was flattered by this comment once I learned more about it. Since then, I have been thinking about how I could make this change and if it's the best set up for me and our scholars. A flexible learning environment would make our classroom less traditional, more innovative and student-centered, and give students more opportunities to make good learning decisions. After many hours of research and having the mindset of always growing my craft, I have decided to give it a shot. Here is a great link to a 4 min video that will help you understand where my vision is coming from. http://www.edutopia.org/practice/flexible-classrooms-providing-learning-environment-kids-need I am going to need your help and support to get the word out about the needs and donations our classroom transition will require. "Free" and "donations" are the magic words. Over the winter break, I am hoping to clean out items from my home, visit estate sales, thrift shops and checking out freebies on social media. I am also happily applying for grants and looking for donations from various companies and local shopping establishments. Please let me know if you have any connections with suppliers, companies or individuals willing to help our classroom out. Here is a list of items I am looking for and would be happy to have in our classroom.
My goal is to transition slowly and adapt quickly. As donations come in, our current tables, assigned seats and student chairs will move their way out. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your help and support with this exciting transition. Elizabeth Martin Proud 1st Grade Teacher Live Oak Elementary
